- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups reduced-fat milk
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups French fried onions
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

-
Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a large pot fitted with a steamer basket. Steam green beans until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and carefully remove the steamer basket. Transfer the beans to a serving dish and set aside.
-
Preheat oven to 400°F. Coat a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
-
Melt butter in the pot and add flour; whisk until blended, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and transfer and remaining ingredients. Sprinkle with the remaining of fried onions on top. Bake until bubbling, 20 to 25 minutes.
